The Second Amendment

The Second amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to secure a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
This is probably the most misunderstood amendment. The founders obviously wanted to be able to defend themselves from an invading foreign power. (Like the Iraqis are currently doing, because of an unconstitutional use of US military force which Mr. Dodd voted for.) They also were afraid that the government would become tyrannical and oppressive. It has taking a drastic turn in that direction with the passage of laws such as the Patriot Act which Mr. Dodd voted for. The founders were afraid that they might one day need to take up arms against their own government.
